Quotes About Volunteering Print E-mail

A Few Thoughts...

Abraham Lincoln once said, "It's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years that matter."

CYA's put meaning and purpose into life. We provide opportunities for companionship, stiumlation, and ways to stay healthy and active. We also care for people who are unable to care for themselves.  If you're a person aged 60+, discover what CYA offers and how you can help others.

Here are more words of wisdom:

A volunteer is a person who is a light to others...doing well and willingly the tasks at hand, namely, being aware on another's needs and doing something about it.

A volunteer is a person who...takes the lonliness out of the alone by talking to them; who is concerned when others are unconcerned; who has the courage to be a prophet, and to say the things that have to be said for the good of all.

A volunteer is a person who is faithful in an unfaithful world, grateful in an ungrateful world, giving when all about are grasping. listening when others need to tell about their fears and problems.

When we honestly ask ourselves which person means the most to us in life we often find it is those who instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures have chosen to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand...who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement....Henri Nouwen

Do all you can with what you have, in the time you have, in the place you are...Nkosi Johnson, a 12 year old Zulo, stricken with AIDS and born into immense poverty

The Possibilities Are Endless

CYA is looking for a few good men (and women) for volunteer jobs. Whatever your talents are, CYA can put them to good use.

CYA needs volunteers to deliver meals, develop programs, read to children and seniors, write articles for the website, teach classes, and more. The list of needs and possibilities is endless.

Volunteer work can be immensely satisfying. Don't think about it, DO IT! We need your involvement.

CYA's Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner is held in every November. In 2008 it was held at the Pittsburgh Field Club in Fox Chapel. Entertainment was provided by Dean Martin--yes, that Dean Martin. Approximately 200 people attended.
